From Hanoi to Sa Pa, Vietnam

Ethnic Trails and the Rice Fields North Vietnam

This trip will bring you to the most amazing landscapes in Vietnam, mainly the area of Mu Can Chai, passing Tule and ending in Sapa, a nice tourist area in the mountains of North Vietnam. The best rice terraced field lanscapes you can see, doing multiple locations and angles. In Sapa we also do some cultural scenes visiting the different hill tribes around the area photographing their way of life.

Travel by private a/c car or minibus Moderate elevation changes and some walking. (*non-photographers also welcome)

After meeting up at Hanoi Airport we will exchange some money for expenses and buy a local SIM card for internet and telephone calls, if you like to have this option (be aware the signal will be slow and sometimes not even working at many areas in the first part of the trip.

We then head for Tule village which is about a 5 hour drive. On the way, in the township of YEN BAI we will have lunch and in the late afternoon we arrive at the KHAU PHA Viewpoint Station where we shoot the sunset.

Late dinner and overnight at your hotel in Tule.

We depart the hotel at Tule very early to head back to the KHAU PHA Viewpoint to shoot the early light there, then head back to the hotel for breakfast. Check-out of the hotel and proceed to a small village LIN HMONG to take photos of local village life, ox carts or rice sowing/harvest (depends on season) Then we take a two hour drive with amazing scenery from Tule to Mu can Chai, where we will have a stop to shoot some spectacular rice field landscapes CHE CU NHA

We wake up early and leave the hotel at 4.30 am to cath the sunrise at some spectacular rice field formations near MO DE Village.  After shooting there we proceed back to the hotel to have breakfast in the village. At noon we rest and in the afternoon we take the motorbike or walk up to the most amazing sight of DE SU PHIN, shoot the evening scene with sunset, local life etc Around 7 PM we hed back to the hotel for dinner and overnight at the hotel in Mu Can Chai.

We wake up at 3.30 and drive uphill to the CHE TAO village where we can see the viewpoint of Mu Can Chai village with some amazing rice fields in the foreground, then we walk down the hill to shoot more viewpoints in the pine hills. Back to the hotel to have breakfast. Rest at noon, free time to have lunch in the village.

In the afternoon we drive about 1 drive to La Pan Tan village and go up the mountains to see local life, then wait at the best viewpoint for the sunset and hopefully a spectacular sunset. After the sunset we head back to the hotel and have dinner and overnight in Mu Can Chai

We wake up at 4 AM to head back to Che Cu Nha to cath the sunrise, and walk down the mountain so see some local life and more beautifull scenery along the way. We head to a second hidden location where we catch the early sunbeams illuminating the rice harvest/planting (depending on season).

Around 9 AM we check out the hotel and leave Mu Can Chai on the road to Sapa. Our drive to Sapa takes about two hours and we make a stop at  BINH LU  to see some amazing mountain formations with local farmers working the fields in the foreground. We make a second stop at heaven’s gate where we look down the valey of HOANG LIEN SON. After arrival we check in the hotel at Sapa and overnight at Sapa Town,  free time for shopping or take an evening shot of Sapa by twilight.

We wake up at 7.30 and visit the MUONG HOA valley and visit three villages inside the valley, LAO CHAI _ TA VAN _GIANG TA CHAI in there we can visit three different ethnic minorities, the Black h’mong, Red Zao and the Zay. (Work in field, portraits). We visit some more viewpoints along the road.

We head back to Sapa for lunch and in the afternoon we visit the Cat Cat viewpoints and Thanh binh. Back to the hotel

Wake up at 5.30 and head to a viewpoint of Sapa town to shoot the sunrise behind the Summit Hotel, back to hotel for breakfast. Checkout before 12 Noon and free time at Sapa Village to do some last minute shopping, we proceed to Ma Tra Village and shoot some indoor scenes from the local life.

Around 4 PM we leave Sapa and head to Lao Cai train station to head back to Hanoi. Arrival in Hanoi around 6 AM and take your connecting flight to your next destination or Home.

Accommodation is included for all nights in the price of this tour and based on shared double room. Extra charges apply for single occupancy. Accommodations in Mu Can Chai is basic but clean and private showers and toilet, as there is limited accommodations.


sometimes we eat local food and go to restaurants on the way. Some areas are remote so will eat local (clean) food.

We meet in the capital city of Bangkok to start our photo adventure. Thailand allows you to stay for 30 days (check your country for restrictions) and you need an international passport valid at least 6 months after your departure.

For Vietnam you need to apply for a visa, this can be done online or at your local embassy.
