The Secret Temples of Cambodia

INTRODUCTION

Cambodia has recently gotten into every photographer’s most wanted destinations list, mainly because of the amazing Angkor Wat temples, which we cover in this trip. Our photography trip starts in the capital city where we have some amazing new viewpoints in store for you and enjoy the laidback atmosphere of this city, we proceed to Battambang to capture local life and end with an extensive study in Photography of the temples of Angkor Wat and surrounding areas.

Cities and highlights covered: Phnom Penh -The Killing fields – Battambang – Siem Riep – Angkor Wat – Koh Ker Temple Complex

EXPERIENCE

Beginner, amateur, enthusiast and pro photographers.Travel by private a/c car or minibus Moderate elevation changes and some walking. (*non-photographers also welcome)

PHNOM PENH ARRIVAL
Arrive in Phnom Penh en transfer to your hotel. Evening scene at the Phnom Penh Skyline (if flight does not arrive late)

FULL DAY PHNOM PENH
This morning we visit and photograph the infamous S-21 Prison, Toeul Sleng, and the Killing Fields at Choeung Ek. Evening photography possible of the Phnom Penh night Skyline at the Blue hour.
Overnight in Phnom Penh.

FULL DAY PHNOM PENH
We rise early to capture images of Phnom Penh waking up. We visit the royal palace of Cambodia and visit a local market.

PHNOM PENH-BATTAMBANG
After breakfast head to Cambodia’s second largest city, Battambang, a French Colonial town more sleepy and charming than Siem Reap or Phnom Penh. We make some photo stops on the road from local life and village culture.
Overnight in Battambang.

FULL DAY BATTAMBANG
Early photoshoot of Battambang’s largest market, with many scenes to shoot. Then back to the hotel for breakfast. Free time at the hotel and Lunch. In the afternoon we photograph monks, locals, and activities along Battambang’s riverfront park, Stung Sangke.
After Dinner overnight in our Battambang Hotel.

BAMBOO TRAIN – TEMPLE VISIT -SIEM REAP
This morning we board the sensational and rudimentary “Bamboo Train,” and spend a few hours exploring small villages, and rice fields. In the afternoon, depending on time and our energy levels, we visit and photograph a brick factory, ice factory and/or a community living along the abandoned train tracks.
Transfer from Battambang to Siem riep.

ANGKOR WAT AND SURROUNDINGS
We start the day with an amazing sunrise over Angkor Wat. Then we proceed to visit this main temples and shoot the details and some scenes with monks. Later in the day we visit Angkor Thom – the ancient city capital of Angkor. Then we head to Bayon. This temple, originally constructed about the early 13th Century, shows over a hundred serenely smiling Buddha faces which will keep any photographer happy for hours of shooting. We proceed to visit some more small temples if time allows. Back to the hotel and visit the evening market in Siem Riep for dinner.

FULL DAY KOH KER AND BENG MELEA TEMPLE
Koh Ker is a whole temple town, the second largest of the ancient Khmer civilization. Due to its remote location, Koh Ker can still be called a “lost city in the jungle”. It remains to be an off the beaten track destination, though it’s indeed one of the most amazing excavation sites you can imagine. We also visit the Beng Mealea temples. This is a full day of visiting.

TONLE SAP
We travel by bus to the floating villages on Cambodia’s largest lake, the Tonle Sap. We walk around to inpect the area and then use small boats to better observe and photograph a floating market. Have a lunch at our boatman’s house, then we proceed to more remote villages for our afternoon shoot.
Overnight in Siem Reap.

KHMER ART – EDITING LESSONS
Free morning to relax at the hotel, afternoon visit to Les Artisans D’Angkor, where we can photograph the local people working on Khmer Art. Late afternoon we have a lesson of Photo Editing in Lightroom and Photoshop at the hotel.
Dinner and overnight at your hotel in Siem Riep.

SIEM REAP-YOUR HOME
After breakfast we head to the airport for our flight to your end destination.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

We meet in the capital city of Bangkok or Phnom Penh to start our photo adventure. FOR CAMBODIA: You need an international passport which is valid for 6 months after date of departure, you will also need to buy a Cambodian visa on entry at the airport which is an easy and quick procedure, please bring two photographs and 30 USD (check online for any changes in these requirements).
