Java and Bali, an amazing Photographic Expedition

INTRODUCTION

While visiting the area of Bromo and Kawah Ijen, you will be amazed by its beauty, it is the perfect location for landscape photography and the visit to these volcano’s will be an amazing experience you will never forget. We then head to Bali to shoot the amazing beach temples, terraced rice fields and local balines cultural scenes.

EXPERIENCE

Beginner, amateur, enthusiast and pro photographers.
Travel by private a/c car or minibus Moderate elevation changes and some walking. (*non-photographers also welcome)
Kawah Ijen is a very hard walk up the mountain, if you are not fit, you can skip this walk, Bromo Volcano is not a problem.

Arrival in Yogjakarta and transfer to your hotel.

Morning visit at the Yogjakarta market, free time to walk around and visit the old quarters and proceed to the oild bird market, after lunch we proceed to the hotel to relax, around 4 PM we leave for sunset at Prambanan Temple.

We wake up very early to head to the Borobudur Temple for an early photoshoot of the temple. In the afternoon we fly from Yogjakarta to Surabaya and transfer to our hotel near the Bromo Volcano.

Early wake up at 05.00 am and head with small jeeps to the Pananjakan 2 viewpoint. We shoot mount bromo at Sunrise. 08.00 AM we head back to the hotel, have breakfast and around 9.30 we make a survey around Bromo through villages nearby where we photograph the local scenes. 12.00 Lunch. and some time to relax in the afternoon and recharge your batteries and empty your cards. At 16.00 PM we head to the Multigen viewpoint for a sunset scene of the Bromo, Mount Semeru and Mount Batok. After 20.00 PM we have dinner at hotel or restaurant nearby, in case the condition is favourable we can practice star trails with Bromo as a foreground.

Wake up very early at 02.00 AM (approx.) going to the Pananjakan 1 viewpoint by local jeeps, around 40 min. from the hotel, where we will be taking stars & sunrise photoshoots. Around 07.00 AM we will be heading down to the caldera, a lowered platform compared to its surroundings with in the middle the volcano’s Bromo and Batok. We also head to the Svannah fields for a few shots of the area and the volcanic desert that looks like a moon landscape. Around 10.00 am we head back to the hotel for our lunch, and some rest in the afternoon – we prepare for nightscape & star trails this evening. At 16.00 we start the sunset & star trails at Pananjakan 1 viewpoint or Kingkong . Around 20.00 back to our hotel for dinner. 21.00 discussion or milkyway study if the skies are clear.

Again early wake up call at 03.30 AM to Penanjakan1 or kingkong for stars and sunrise photography. After 7 AM we head back to our hotel, check out, and we drive around 1 hour to go to Madakaripura waterfall. 12.00 lunch on the way. Around 16.00 we reach our hotel near Kawah Ijen. 18.30 Dinner 19.30 Early sleep. 22.00 check out and drive to the entrance of Mt. Kawah Ijen entrance about 23.00 or 24.00.

00.00 trekking to Mt. Kawah Ijen with local guides to visit blue fire, (please note opening times at the gate change every day so it might be possible we have to wait longer). We walk up the hill for about 2-3 hours and we stop on the way to shoot stars and arrive at the crater around 3.00 or 04.00, then getting down to the crater bottom & lake, taking photos of the Blue fire & sunrise. Note: flash light or head lamp, mask and protective eye gear are recommended – preferably sulfur mask). Around 09.00 AM we head to Bali island via the ferry, Lunch on the way. (time zone different 1 hr. plus to East Java time). Around 16.00 study sunset at Tanah lot. Dinner at Tanah lot. Later we move to our hotel near Bratan Lake. practice star trails with Bromo as a foreground.

Early morning breakfast and sunrise at Kintamani mountain. We will spend the afternoon to shoot the famous photo location where kids ‘perform” with water in a dam. We visit more temples and have some local people by our model for some portrait shootings of Balinese Cultural life on the Island.

Sunrise this morning will be at one of Bali’s most iconic locations known as Bedugul where the temple is within the waters of Lake Bratan. Visit local temples and Bali village life. After lunch we will drive to Tegalalang rice fields.

Morning beach scenes and village life. In the afternoon we are going to a village where there is group of traditional Barong Dance will perform only for us. We will stay in Ubud area.

Sunrise shoot at Tanah Lot and the whole area of rocky beach scenes. After breakfast we will visit Jimbaran where we will spend our final evening.

After breakfast departure to Denpasar Airport for your connecting flight.

PERSONAL PREPARATION

This is a photographic trip. Preparation for the trip will be different from an ordinary tour. The trips were designed to suit every level of photography skills. Participants who would like to join the tour only or to accompany a photographer are also welcome. Be ready for sleepless nights when shooting of nightscape and early morning photography.
Late breakfasts & dinners, or packed meals are expected due to the fact that the moments will be the prime time for shooting sunrise & sunset. If you accompany a photographer you can skip some schedules. However, we encourage you to try the experience of being a passionate photographer.
Read camera manual thoroughly, sometimes nobody can help you with technical problems of your own camera.
Study techniques of shooting milky way, star trails, long exposure. -if possible, try to practice what you have studied after reading.
Prepare your physical conditions by practice daily aerobic exercises.
Prepare for your personal belongings, medicines.
Do not forget to check the passport validity.

sometimes we eat local food and go to restaurants on the way. Some areas are remote so will eat local (clean) food.

We meet in the capital city of Bangkok to start our photo adventure. Thailand allows you to stay for 30 days (check your country for restrictions) and you need an international passport valid at least 6 months after your departure.
